SM PTP Request

Good day,

Hopefully I'm just not finding this feature and it already exists but if not, when will we be able to link SM to Network site via PTP without making it a network site?

Basically being able to make a PMP access point PTP-usable with PTP antennas.

Hi,

If you want to connect a subscriber site using a PTP link you have to create a network site at that location (right-click on the subscriber site in the tree and select "Create duplicate network site"). If you want to keep it as a subscriber, but the antennna isn't available in the list, then you can add a custom antenna (assuming that the product supports it). Products and licenses have different constraints when they are operating in PTP or PMP mode - this is why we separate PTP and PMP in the LINKPlanner.

You said "Basically being able to make a PMP access point PTP-usable with PTP antennas". A PMP access point is already located at a network site (through a hub). You can create PTP links from this site to backhaul network traffic. You can't use PTP antennas on an AP since they do not provide the required beamwidth. You cannot add custom AP antennas.

Thanks,

Andy

Hi Andrew,

You said "You can't use PTP antennas on an AP since they do not provide the required beamwidth."

We have clients that connect to towers via PTP links. I need to be able to use PTP antenna's on network sites to connect subscriber modules, eg. using a ePMP1000 in ePTP mode to connect a subscriber module - Not for Network backhaul use.

Hi,

If you need to connect 2 sites as a PTP link then they have to be network sites.

If you want to connect an SM to an ePMP AP using an antenna that isn't available in LINKPlanner you can create a custom SM antenna. Note that ePMP does not support the "ePMP PTP Mode" setting when operating as an AP or SM. You have to create a PTP link to see this setting.

Thanks,

Andy
