"RF Calibration Failure"

After a power outage, I had two SMs drop off the network.  We swapped out the first one today, and it's displaying in red "RF Calibration Failure".  The following appears in the log file:
Software Version : CANOPY 13.3 SM-AES
Board Type : P11
Device Setting : 3.6GHz MIMO OFDM - Subscriber Module - 0a-00-3e-40-d2-60

FPGA Features : AES, Sched;

I suspect the other SM is having the same problem.  The issue is that it's on what I affectionaly refer to as a suicide roof.  It's extremely dangerous to work on, and I'm looking at likely 3 hours of brutally difficult work to swap out the SM.  I'd really rather not do that, but I have to do something to resolve this ASAP.

Is there any way to fix this over the cable without having to physically access or replace the SM?  The MAC of the unit still in the field is 0a-00-3e-40-68-0f

Hi Ted,

I would request to please reset the radio to factory default and try upgrading to the latest software. If the issue still persists, I would suggest you to open a support case and the support team will be happy to help you. Kindly find the below link where in you can open a support case :

When defaulted, it gives the same error in red, and the log entries are identical.  The unit still chains reboots every minute and a half when the default plug is in it.

I'm already running the latest official software.  I could try upgrading to the 13.4B7 beta, but my concern is that it will reboot in mid flash and brick the radio since it's restarting every 1:30.

Hi Ted,

Are you getting message in the home page of the Radio as "Radio not calibrated"?

Does the unit is under warranty?

For Radio not calibrated issue:

If the unit is under warranty, then create a case with Cambium support. So that Cambium will send you the "cal data" to resolve this issue. If the issue still persist then cambium will do RMA for the unit.

If the unit is not under warranty then you need to send it for Recalibration. Cambium will do recalibration at the repair center.

Vijay Gnanamurthy

will there be applicable fee's for non warranty odu's for this case?

I've created a support case, and had an L3 telnet into the SM.  He's telling me we have to RMA SMs with this problem, as they cannot be calibrated by an end-user.

The affected SMs should be under warranty, but for a bizarre issue like this, I would expect it to be covered even if it wasn't.

I am also getting the same error on an SM20. Reset to factory default but still showing. It was upgraded to 13.4 fom 13.3 but still the same issue. I have experienced the same issue too recently with just one SM so far.

The affected radio is a PMP450  3.65GHz  SM with fw 13.4.

I downgraded the firmware to 13.3 and then 13.2.1 with no success.

The unit had been in service and running 13.4 for sometime.  I was troubleshooting the customer's connection and rebooted the SM remotely.  The connection went idle and upon a site visit, I found the RF Calibration error.

Also to note the unit defaulted itself to 169.254.1.1 and removed all user account and SMNP info.

Another strange issue is the radio is showing its only lincensed for 4Mbps  when it should be a 20Mbps SM.

I have seen this before. The calibration and license info is stored on the flash which is likely corrupt. Cambium should be able to reload the calibration and license for you.

This is not the same as "RF calibration failure" or "ADI communication failure" or "ADI Catalina chip not supported" messages. Those are all ADI related issues. We have had a few. Others discovered quite a bit more. Guess we've been lucky. And Cambium support/RMA has been great at getting these replaced. The few we had were turned around in a week.

Hello,

Can you please contact the support team about this?

Jonathan,

I have contacted Cambium and this has been resolved since the around the time the post was made.

Cambium remote accessed and "reprogramed" the radio.

Thank you
