PURPOSE:

The motive behind writing this procedure is to provide an overview for running RFC (Request for Comments) 2544 tests using T-Berd 5800 Tool.

OVERVIEW:

The following procedures cover “Throughput” and “Frame Loss” tests. The parameter values used in these tests, serve only demonstrative purpose. The exact values, e.g. maximum throughput, throughput threshold, throughput Frame Loss Tolerance percentage are all subject to variation as per user requirements and aspiration for running these tests.

DISCLAIMER:

Cambium Networks is not liable for any test results produced by executing the following procedures on any equipment used under any condition. The purpose for this document is to only provide procedural steps required to run RFC2544 tests (using T-Berd 5800 tool) and not to provide the testing parameters or expected result values.

PROCEDURE:

  1. Power on JDSU T-Berd 5800 by pressing the power button located at the front left bottom corner of the tool.
  2. Connect one end of straight Ethernet cable to the backside of T-Berd 5800 tool at Port 1, where it says “10/100/1000”. The other end of this cable should be connected to the AP (Access Point) under investigation.
  3. Take second straight Ethernet cable and connect one end of it to Port 2 of T-Berd tool and connect other end to the SM (Subscriber Module) registered under above AP.
  4. Click “10/100/1000 L2 Traffic RFC 2544” test.
  1. Click on “Go” to “Start a New Configuration (reset to defaults)”.

  1. Choose radio buttons for “Symmetric” and “Loopback” and then click “Next” at the bottom right corner of the screen.

  1. Choose Frame Type as “DIX”, Encapsulation as “None” and “Traffic” and then click “Next”.

  1. Pick “No” for the question “Do you want to use a configuration template?” and then click “Next”.

  1. Choose “Throughput” and “Frame Loss” for running these two tests and then click “Next”.

Note: Other RFC 2544 tests can also be checked, if that is what the user desires.

 10. Choose Bandwidth Unit as “L2 Mbps” and Max Bandwidth (L2 Mbps) as “100” and then click “Next”.

Note: Users can choose their desired testing value for the “Max Bandwidth” parameter depending upon their testing requirements.

 11. Choose following Frame Lengths:

  1. 64
  2. 128
  3. 256
  4. 512
  5. 1024
  6. 1280
  7. 1518

Click “Next”.

Note: The tests are run at the selected Frame Lengths picked at this step.

 12. Choose “Zeroing-in Process” as “RFC 2544 Standard” and “Measurement Accuracy (L2 Mbps)” as “To within 1 Mbps”. Click “Next”.

Note: Measurement Accuracy can be varied depending upon the user’s requirements.

 13. For “Test Procedure” choose “RFC 2544 Standard” and for Bandwidth Granularity (L2 Mbps) choose 10. Click “Next”.

Note: Bandwidth Granularity can be modified.

 14. Pick “No” for “Configuration test durations separately?”

  1. Duration (s): 30 Number of Trials: 1

Click “Next”.

Note: The test “duration” and “Number of Trials” can be modified here. Higher values will increase the overall testing time for each scenario.

 15.

   (a) Check “Throughput Threshold (L2 Mbps): 100

   (b) Check “Throughput Frame Loss Tolerance (%): 0

   (c) Choose Acterna Payload Version: Version 2

   (d) Click “Next”.

Note: Throughput Threshold value can be adjusted here. Most of RFC2544 tests use 0% throughput Frame Loss Tolerance but some may also use 1% as the tolerance value.

 16. Click on the File Name and Type the name of the profile. Then click Save Profile to save the testing parameter values picked so far. Click “Skip Save Profiles” to go to the next step.

  17. Click “Go” to “Run Tests”.

 18. Click on blinking “Start” button.

 19. Running message is seen on the top left of the screen.

(a) “Loop Failed” message in red at the bottom of the screen may appear, if the second port is not already configured.

(b) For configuring the second port Click “Go To” at the top right corner of the screen.

(c) Click on “Other Port” at the bottom of the screen.

(d) Check the green LED lights at the ports where the Ethernet cables are connected at the backside of T-Berd 5800 tool.

(e) Repeat the procedure for the second port.

 (f) Load your already saved profile and then click “Next”.

(g) Click “Go” to “Run Tests”.

(h) Click “Start”.

(i) This time you should get “Active Loop” message in green at the bottom center of the screen.

 20. Click “Next” at the bottom right corner of the screen.

 21. Click on blinking “Run Test” on the top right corner of the screen.

 22. “Time remaining” message shows up on the top of the screen and the percentage of the time duration for the test shows up.

Note: Please wait until all the test scenarios are executed. It may take more than a couple of hours, depending upon the number and duration of the tests being run.

 23. Look for the test results/status:

   (a) Pass

   (b) Fail

   (c) Complete

   (d) Running

   (e) Scheduled

Click “Next” at the bottom right of the screen.

 24. Click “Go” to create report.
