4940-4990 MHz FCC Further Notice of Proposed Rule Making

The FCC has issued an Further Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) (attached) to propose a limited set of rule amendments to Part 90 to “promote more flexible and intensive use of this spectrum while preventing interference” in the 4.9 GHz band, which the FCC says is underutilized. Among other things, the FCC proposes a band plan and coordination requirements.  Comments are due 60 days from publication of the item in the Federal Register, which has not happened but expected in the near-term.

Cambium Networks intends to respond and welcomes the Community's suggestions and recommendations to incorporate in our response.

What's the difference between 4.9GHz and 5GHz as far as throughput and NLOS applications?  I tried to find answers elsewhere but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of information.

There's really no noticeable differences. Throughput and nNlos performance will be the same and are dependent on the equipment being used and the permitted EIRP for that band. That being said, you'll want to make sure that whatever antenna you're using a wide band antenna covering 4.9GHz. Many antennas are tuned to be used specfically for 5.2 - 5.8, you may find performance drop off if you use it outside of the intended frequency range.
