SNMP Configuration for cnMaestro On Premises Server

This guide provides the procedures required to configure Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) in cnMaestro On Premises Server. This feature will be available from software release 1.6.0.

It is intended for use by system designer, system installer, and system administrator to perform SNMP read operation and receive Traps from cnMaestro server.

SNMP Configuration

Enable SNMP

The following procedure provides steps required to enable SNMP:

  1. Navigate to Applications > Settings
  2. Expand Optional Features and enable the SNMP check box.

Configure SNMP

The following procedure provides steps to configure SNMP:

Navigate to Services > SNMP Configuration.

  1. Enter SNMPv2c Read Community string
  2. Enter IP Address of the Server PC where Trap Receiver is running
  3. Enter SNMPv2 Trap Community string

 CnMaestro MIB

  1. User can download cnMaestro MIB “CAMBIUM-CNMAESTRO-MIB_1.6.0.mib” by logging in to support website https://support.cambiumnetworks.com/files/cnmaestro/
  2. cnMaestro MIB has three subtrees.
  •   cnMaestro Trap
  •   cnMaestro Server
  •   cnMaestro Device
  1. cnMaestro server Traps only support two traps with current 1.6.0 release.
  •   cnMaestroServerTrapDeviceOnline
  •   cnMaestroServerTrapDeviceOffline

  1. cnPilot Device table shows all managed devices in the On-premises server.
  2. cnPilot AP table only shows all managed Enterprise Wi-Fi devices.

Note: Cambium Networks do not recommend any specific third party MIB browsers, users are free to use any third party MIB browsers for SNMP Get operation and Traps.

 Examples

 Example 1: Configuration of iReasoning MIB browser to Perform SNMP Walk and receive TRAPS from cnMaestro On-Premises Server:

  1. Open iReasoning MIB browser and Navigate to File > Load MIBs

  1. Browse cnMaestro-MIB file and load it.
  2. Navigate to Advanced Tab and enter details mentioned in cnMaestro SNMP Configuration page.

  1. Navigate to Tools bar and enable Trap Receiver. (Note: Please make sure SNMP Port: 162 is not listening any other packets.).
  2. Navigate to cnMaestro MIB and right click for options. Click on SNMP Subtree or Walk to perform SNMP walk operation. The following figure is an example for walk results.

  1. Increase SNMP Timeout value to 5 or 6 minutes if Managed device count in cnMaestro Server is more than 5K for complete results.

  System Readiness

  1. cnmaestro-snmp and snmpd services should be running in cnMaestro > Diagnostics
  2. Ports 161 and 162 must be free in system where SNMP services are running.
  3. IP address of trap server must be reachable to cnMaestro server to send traps.
  4. In order to receive Traps, Trap community string must be same in cnMaestro SNMP configuration and MIB browser Traps settings
