Which base O/S works best for hosting on-premises version of cnMaestro?

We are considering moving our instance of cnMaestro from the cloud to an in-house box. I understand that the on-premises version runs in a VM, but are there any recommendations as to which underlying OS works best? Windows (ver?) or which denomination of Linux?

cnMaestro comes as an ova. You don't get the choice in OS.

As I said, I perfectly well understand that. However the base VM software runs on something - which is preferred, Windows or some version of Linux?

For production environments, the recommendation is to use VMWare vSphere ESXi. This uses a bare-metal hypervisor. There is no host OS involved.

For details please see the Virtualization section in the User's Guide

Linux isn’t a hypervisor. Just run esxi
