  cnMaestro™ On-Premises 1.2.0 Release Notes

Introduction

cnMaestro On-Premises is a standalone version of the cnMaestro Cloud application that can be installed in a customer's data center. Its functionality is nearly identical to Cloud – though compacted into a single package that can execute on a virtual machine.

Supported Features

The primary features of On-Premises include the following:

Feature

Description

Hierarchical Dashboards

Visualize your devices from tower to edge with customized dashboards for each device type.

Advanced Troubleshooting

Display tower-to-edge status in a single graphic, view Wi-Fi client details and health, and troubleshoot client connectivity directly on the AP.

Notifications

View immediate status with stateful alarms, and troubleshoot customer issues by filtering on alarm history and reviewing events.

Device Inventory

Access your devices at the system level, or by network, tower, or sector. Device data can be exported in PDF or CSV formats.

Statistics and Trending

View historical radio and network statistics.

Bulk Image Upgrade

Upgrade the software images in a sector or across sectors in a single job. Queue upgrade jobs during the day, so they can be run in the evening, when the network is less utilized.

Template-Based Configuration

Push configuration to single devices or to groups of devices across your network using templates.

Maps and Map Modes

Leverage Google Maps satellite view to position your devices and visualize their health and connectivity. Change the map mode to graphically display various wireless key performance indicators.

Zero Touch Onboarding

Preconfigure supported Cambium devices so they will be automatically onboarded when provided with network connectivity.

Multiple Administrators

Invite colleagues by email to manage devices in your organization’s cnMaestro account.

Differences with cnMaestro Cloud

Difference

Details

Deployment

The cloud version is fully hosted and maintained by Cambium at cloud.cambiumnetworks.com. The On-Premises version is released as an OVA (Open Virtualization Archive) file that needs to be installed on either VMware or VirtualBox.

Device Connectivity

In the Cloud version, all devices access cloud.cambiumnetworks.com. In the On-Premises version, devices contact the local cnMaestro instance instead. This means they need to be configured to access the server before they can be managed. This can be accomplished on the device using the Device UI or SNMP. Alternatively, DHCP options can be configured to provide the cnMaestro URL when the device boots up.

Onboarding

In the Cloud, onboarding is done using either the device Serial Number (MSN) or through the Cambium ID (entered on the device). In On-Premises, all devices contacting cnMaestro will be added to the Onboarding Queue, where they can be accepted and managed.

Device Image Management

In the Cloud, Device images are automatically available. In the On-Premises version, new images need to be downloaded from Support Center and added to the cnMaestro server.

cnMaestro Software Upgrade

cnMaestro On-Premises has two types of software upgrade:

1.     Virtual Machine Upgrade requires the customer to replace the entire virtual machine with a new instance. Configuration and data are exported from the old instance and imported to the new.

2.     Package Upgrade only updates the cnMaestro software; it does not require a virtual machine reinstallation.

Administrators

cnMaestro On-Premises has local administrators.

cnMaestro On-Premises CLI

cnMaestro On-Premises provides a simple CLI, available through the virtual machine console, which allows one to configure networking parameters and update the system password.

Server Management

cnMaestro On-Premises displays virtual machine performance parameters such as disk, memory, and CPU utilization.

Good news!!!

Thanks!!!

Installed and working!! Thanks

Hello,

How can i upgrade the BETA to the commercial one?

Hi. it's possible to import all data from "old" cloud version?

thanks.

It is possible, but on a case-per-case basis, and you have to coordinate with cambium support.

"Can I export my cloud configuration to onpremises?"
Please contact Cambium Support if you are interested in exporting from Cloud to On-Premises. This is a manual process that requires coordination with the engineering team to limit management down time.  [Page 27 of the quick guide].

Hi,

Please follow below steps to migrate from beta to release version:

1. Create new virtual machine using release On-Premises OVA file.

2. Export data from beta virtual machine by navigating to Manage > Server > Operations page. Please refer to below screenshot for more details:

3. Now import this exported data into virtual machine created using release OVA by navigating to Manage > Server > Operations page. Please refer to below screenshot for more details:

You can also refer to section "Exporting/Importing Data" in User Guide for details.

Thanks,

Krishna

At the moment this is free.  In the future will this be a paid service?  I do not want to set this up and start relying on it only to have to start paying for it.

Good question.  I doubt they'll charge in the future as they are funding their development with the sales of their equipment.  Just my opinion though. We already pay a signifiant price over other competitors in (some regards) terms of proprietary vs wifi based equipment.  So this is the benefit of buying better quality, higher grade equipment.  It is part of Cambium doing business to provide tools to monitor and manage their equipment.  Especialy since the jumble of products they had before were all pretty useful and useless at the same time.

cnMaestro isa good thing going forward.  Especially if they eventually add some sort of legacy support so we can entirely replace things like cnut etc.
