How does the "Synchronization Source of Co-located System" parameter affect timing?

When co-locating ePMP 1000 and PMP 100 equipment, one important step is to configure the ePMP AP  parameter Synchronization Source of Co-located System.Screen Shot 2015-11-16 at 4.04.53 PM.png

This parameter defines the synchronization source of the co-located PMP 100 equipment (GPS (uGPS), CMM3, or CMM4).  

These three synchronization sources introduce subtly different handling of GPS reference signaling.  Since many existing PMP 100 deployments may contain uGPS, CMM3 or CMM4, the co-located ePMP AP must be configured (via Synchronization Source of Co-located System)to align its frame start with the co-located PMP 100 frame start.  

For example, an ePMP 1000 AP co-located with a CMM4 GPS-synchronized PMP 100 system must be configured with Synchronization Source of Co-located System set to CMM4 so that the GPS timing on the ePMP 1000 ultimately occurs at the same time as the CMM4 PMP 100 system.  In this case, the ePMP AP adjusts its synchronization shift offset to match the offset at the co-located CMM4.  The result is a synchronized frame start among the systems ensuring that ePMP 1000 and PMP 100  transmit/receive cycles are coordinated (to avoid system self-interference and to allow frequency re-use).
