Network Entry State Definitions and Courses of Action

The ePMP SM's Monitor > Wireless page displays key information about the radio's wireless interface.  The Network Entry State parameter indicates the results of the SM's network entry attempts.  For descriptions of the states which may be displayed for this parameter, please see below:

Code

Description

Course of Action

<0-15  - from AP>

0    "SUCCESS",

SM has completed network entry successfully

None

1    "MAX CAPACITY",

Number of connected SMs reached maximum limit

Check number of subscribers in the sector, consider modifying AP parameter Max Registrations Allowed

2    "SW VERSION INCOMPATIBLE",

Software version of SM is incompatible with target AP

Verify SM software version, upgrade SM or AP as required

3    "ACL POLICY",

SM attempting registration is not configured in the AP's Subscriber Module Wireless MAC parameter

Confirm AP configuration of access control list - SM MAC address must be configured in Subscriber Module Wireless MAC

5    "OTHER",

The AP does not have the required memory to allow network entry.

Internal

<16-31 - determined by STA, association>

16    "INA RETRIES EXHAUSTED",

The SM sends Initial Network Access (INA) frames to the AP for network entry, if the SM does not receive the INA response frame, a set number of INA requests are resent. If no INA response frame is received at the SM, the SM initiates network entry with next AP (based on configuration of Preferred AP LIst) or reinitiates registration with first AP after a back-off timer expires.

Conduct a site survey at the SM to determine if poor link quality is causing a lack of INA response being received at the SM

17    "OUT OF CELL",

If the SM is further than the value configured in the AP's Max Range parameter (determined by the SM's calculation of the propagation delay), network entry is denied

Consider adjusting the Max Range parameter

18 "ERROR PROP DELAY CALCULATION"

To synchronize transmit and receive cycles, the SM and AP must compensate for the propagation delay for the furthest SM in the network.  If the SM propagation delay calculation is rejected by the AP, registration is halted

Conduct a site survey at the SM to determine if poor link quality is causing a propagation delay calculation problem.

19    "LOST AID",

Group Poll Frame corrupted when received by SM

Conduct a site survey to verify interference presence on the link. If multiple sectors are deployed and are in-range of each other, check for strong signals coming from other co-channel APs in the network which may be introducing corruption in the network entry messaging.

20    "AUTHENTICATION FAILED",

Invalid RADIUS credentials

Verify RADIUS configuration of username and password and that the AP is populated with correct credentials.

21    "CERTIFICATE FAILED",

Verification of SM certificate failed between the SM default or user-uploaded root certificate and the certificate resident on the RADIUS server

Verify that the root certificate at the SM and the certificate configured on the RADIUS server are correct

22    "GENERIC AUTH FAIL",

SM authentication failed for reasons other than mismatched security type or mismatched pre-shared keys.

Check for quality of radio connection to ensure that authentication information is not lost over a poor link

23    "MAC VERSION INCOMPATIBLE",

The version of the SM Media Access Control layer is incompatible with the AP

Check software versions on the AP and SM for firmware incompatibilities

<30 assoc reasons is not supported>

30    "REASONS IS NOT SUPPORTED",

Internal

Internal

<32-47 - determined by STA, disassociation>

32    "NO ALLOCATION ON AP",

The SM has not been polled by the AP for 400 frames

Check for quality of radio connection to ensure that polling information is not lost over a compromised link.

33    "GPFs MISS",

SM missed the Group Poll Frame resulting in SM disassociation

Check for quality of radio connection to ensure that polling information is not lost over a compromised link.

34    "BEACONs MISS",

SM missed consecutive Beacon Frames, resulting in SM disassociation

Check for quality of radio connection to ensure that beacon information is not lost over a compromised link.

35 "STA HAS DETECTED RADAR (ETSI)

SM has detected radar and must shut down the transmitter based on regional requirements

Regulatory requirement, operator may need to survey and configure a different carrier frequency to avoid radar.

<48-63 - determined by AP, disassociation>

48    "COMMUNICATION LOST",

The SM cannot be reached by AP polling, resulting in SM disassociation

Check for quality of radio connection.

49    "INVALID SECURITY KEY",

The SM has provided an invalid pre-shared key for authentication resulting in SM disassociation

Verify security settings on the AP and SM

50 "OPERATOR INITIATED DISCONNECT

The SM has been disconnected via web or other management interface (SNMP) on the AP

User-initiated disconnect

51    "AP INITIATED DISCONNECT"

Communicated prior to AP reboot or prior to wirelss driver reinitialization

Normal messaging due to AP reset or AP reset of wireless driver
