3.65ghz

What 3.65ghz gear is anyone here using?

We just got some Airspan 3.65 MicroMAX. We got 3 sectors, base station distribution unit (rather similar to CMM in concept), Symmetricom GPS timing module, 10 outdoor CPE and 2 indoor CPE for $21K.

A bit pricier than Canopy but it’s a nice clean frequency range and the equipment is very robust. It’s a true WiMax system and everyone says it performs very well.

We don’t have any actual experience with it yet, we’re still getting the management software Netspan up and running. It runs on Windows XP Pro/Server 2003/etc, IIS, and SQL Express. Needless to say it’s the first (and last) Windows server in our company. Netspan’s web interface looks really cool, though.

The only way to get a login to Airspan’s support website is to buy training from them. You will still have to buy from one of Airspan’s resellers like Altius or Stutler.

We also looked a Solectek but we ended up going with Airspan because our competitors are also going with Airspan MicroMAX and we want to be able to co-exist on the same tower farms.

Of course we are still deploying Canopy like mad…

so where are you guys located?

We’ve looked at the 3.65 gear but it’s a little pricey for us at the moment. I think in a year or two we’ll probably look at deploying and just complement it with Canopy should it work out well.

It would be so much easier if Motorola would just release a 3.65GHz Canopy line!

Motorola said is going to release a licenced multipoint solution by the end of the year.
But we need something next month…we are looking where to buy airspan…

By licensed do you mean 3.65, which is affordable for most providers, or licensed in the sense that no one except the big players will be able to afford the license for the spectrum?

We already have the license for the 3.65 gear so that is what I would like to see. Any other licensed bands we simply cannot justify or afford.

i am told that the 3.65ghz licence is only a 1 time fee of $240 can anyone tell me who i need to call to buy it? and do you know if i have to make up my mind ware im going to put it befor i call?

The 3.65GHz license we applied for is a blanket license that covers the entire continental USA. The application is done via the FCC website. As I did not personally apply for it, I can not tell you exactly where. There was the one-time fee that covered the license and filing.

i wish we could get the license. unfortunately do to Andrews AFB and the NSA buildings, Washington DC, Etc. all of MD is excluded. :frowning:

did a phone conference today, it sounds like Moto is going to ditch 3.65 in leiu of white noise
