450i 900mhz and Omni antenna?

Hello,

I am coming over from the dark side.. We are a smaller sized WISP, under 1k subs, have not used any cambium equipment at all yet, but the 450i does have me very interested though.

There is a neighboring wisp that has a lot of old canopy 900mhz deployed, we've taken a couple hundred of their subs and switched over to 5.8ghz with many properly placed towers, but we still have many areas that trees impact coverage. SInce the other wisp already uses 900mhz I've never bothered, (plus the slow throughput)

But now, we are growing into new areas that little or no 900mhz coverage is in place. So my question is would it work for now to start out with an omni direcation antenna? I understand you then are subject to noise from all directions, so perhaps that will not work.

I would love to deploy 1 AP on this new tower and roll out with an omni for testing. Just wonding if I am asking for a lot of trouble doing so, if not, is there a recomended omni antenna to use?

Thanks guys

omni antenna is only recomended if you have very low interference...

If your noise is low, then an omni will probably work fine. There's only one dual x-pol 900mhz omni that I know of. It's made by Alpha antennas out of Ireland. This will run you just over $1k.

I get the economic attracitveness of the Omni, but being able to reject noise and increase C/I performance are worthwhile benefits of a sector antenna.  I suspect also the reduction in gain will negatively affect tree penetration - one of the best benefits of using 900 MHz.
