450v on J-leg

Does anyone have photos of how they’ve mounted a 450v SM on a standard 1.66" J-leg? Either the 4x4 or 2x2? Are these too heavy and if so what’s the alternative, a 2" J-leg? Is a support strut advisable? And where do you mount the GPS puck? There’s pretty much no pipe above the SM mount.

Another wall mount method we use a lot is a piece of galvanized pipe between two 4" standoff Channelmaster wallmount brackets, that’s probably a no-go with the 2x2 SM which needs 6.5 to 7 inches clearance from the center of the pipe. Sitepro1 sells a heavy duty 8" standoff wallmount which we I guess we could use for commercial installs, but it’s expensive and overkill for residential.

No replies so I’ll update my own post. I assembled a 2x2 and a 4x4 and had a field tech do an eval. He said the 2x2 could go on a regular J-leg. The 4x4 is a beast and would require a 2 inch Direct TV J-leg with support struts, or else something like a tripod. Tech looked at the GPS puck and said what, no magnet? We might have to take another look at the 450b6 although it only gives us 300 MHz of lower 6 GHz and no UNII-1 or DFS.

Oh, and the 4x4 is an SOB to assemble. Requires T20 and T30 Torx and a torque wrench, I had to use a thread chaser to clean paint out of the threaded holes that hold the radio to the dish, and lining up the 2 rubber gaskets just right is a challenge. Once you do though, I’m not sure the torque wrench is necessary since you basically crank the screws down against the metal. I was afraid just the right pressure would be needed to compress the rubber gaskets.

We’ve deployed a couple 450v 4x4’s and your assessment is spot on. It’s a beast.
