We have been a Cambium user for a long time, but mostly the 450 product series. What are some real world expectations for a 4600 access point, number of sm’s and throughput on a 160mhz channel size vs 80mhz. When or how many sm’s connected do you experience latency issues? At peak times do you see 1gb of usage or 200mbs? Just trying to get a feel of what other ISP’s are getting from these radios.
There’s a lot of variables to consider, you might want to try do some modeling in LinkPlanner online to get a better idea of what to expect under different scenarios.
As an example, on the AP-side you can get around 400mbps aggregate out of each 40MHz of spectrum, so 80MHz would be around 800mbps, and 160MHz would be 1600mbps. On the station side, your raw tput depends on the model SM you use. The F4625 and F4616 have limited CPU processing and max out at 1024QAM, so the best you’ll see is around around 700-800mbps using a 160MHz channel width. You can get past this limitation by using an F4600c with an external dish. It not only has much better processing power but it is also capable of modulations up to 4096QAM. With the F4600c, you can see tput up to almost 2gbps under ideal circumstances.
As to the number of subscribers you can pack onto an AP, that’s largely dependent on the connection quality of each SM and what your minimum tput goals to each client are, and what packages you’re trying to sell. As an example, we provide packages up to 400mbps, and we have some 4600 4x4 AP’s with nearly 50 SM’s on them and they seem to be doing well, with room to grow.
Thanks for the great explanation, another question I have is with the 450 link tests, the reported throughput is very much the same as actual. With these 4600’s and you do a wireless test of say 900mbs what would you think the actual throughput to be?
The e4k rf link tests use a default of 1500 byte UDP packets, so def more on generous side. Real world is around 10-20% less depending on the type of test and traffic.

Just under 200mbps peak and this is during peak hours, so around 7-9pm.

For the e4k 6GHz series, we’re limited to a maximum of 36dBm EIRP on both sides in the USA/FCC region. Max distance is 5 miles, but most clients are under 3 miles.
