5.8 BH sync to AP Q n A

okay… so my boss put up a 5.8 BH master thats pluged into a CMM then it sends sync to the BH slave then from the timing port of the BH slave go’s to the timing port on the 900mhz AP aslo the DL % on the 5.8 BH is at 50 and the DL % on the 900Mhz AP is at 75 %

we are haveing extream sync problems and already orderd a packet flux
but its on back order realy need you guys to confirm what im thinking and any ideas to get me past these few weeks untill the sync pipe gets here would be awsome thanks

I always thought that sync only came into it when using the same frequency band as the 900 clients should not be able to see the signal from the BH…

But first step if you wanted to sync things is they have to have the same radio ocnfiguration, eg data% range control slots and setup to sync through timing port if thats not already done.

I would still say that its not sync related between 5.7 and 900 units though, I have quite a large number of sites of similar configuration that run without sync and no problems

What data leads you to the conclusion that it is a sync problem? Do you have interference with another 900 AP somewhere? If so, the setup you’ve described should work fine, you need to adjust the settings so that downlink %, control slots, and max distance match, and make sure both sites are receiving external sync and not generating their own.

5GHz and 900MHz will not interfere with each other. The problem is not sync related between the BH and the AP.

the sync probelm is betwen AP and SMs i talk’t to canopy enginers they say syncing from a BH has too much of a delay and will not sync right
that is why all my customers are getting 500 re-regs a day with a signal of -60 with the noise floor at -80

If they say there is a problem syncing from the BH20 just remove the sync and have the 900 generate its own sync pulse, its not needed between a 5.7 and a 900 as they won’t interfear with each other

You might also ask the engineers why their documentation recommends that approach and why it works quite well in many field deployments. We sync 4 900MHz APs ranging from 1.5 miles, to just shy of 10 miles from a 5.7AP and SMs. They carry sync just fine as do the three backhaul sets that connect to our other APs. Sounds to me like you’ve got interference, but it’s not coming from the BH. Do you have other 900MHz AP deployed? Are there other ISPs in the area using 900MHz gear (Canopy or otherwise)? Unless there is something weird going on that you’ve not mentioned, I don’t think that different sync is going to help you.

you guys are not understanding what i am asking i will post more when i get time and let you know the results

You won't have to wait that long... If your packetflux order hasn't shipped yet, it will tomorrow...

The engineers are wrong. Or at least the entry level support techs are wrong.

There are *lots* of AP's receiving sync from a BH.... it's actually described in the Canopy System guide. It works well, as long as the BH link is stable (good link tests, etc).

The question which needs to be asked is what do you think you are interfering with on 900Mhz. You do not need sync to prevent interference btween any other band and your 900Mhz AP... The only thing which sync will affect is interference between two 900Mhz AP's.

I have recently seen some situations where a AP (or BHM) goes bad in such a way that it won't receive sync correctly from *any* source - timing port, power port, or anything. It says "receiving sync" but it causes all the other problems you describe.

If there are no other 900Mhz canopy AP's nearby (several miles), try just switching the AP to generate sync and see if the problems go away.

If not, try the syncpipe when it arrives (like I said, we're really only about 1-2 days behind in shipping at this point).

packetflux sync pipe rocks hook’t that thing up and all is smooth now
i dont care what anyone says using a 5.8 BH for a 900Mhz syinc pipe just dose not work my customers had to suffer for almost a year becuse of that and a $100 packet flux fix’t it i guess sometimes you just have to trust your gut and ignor evryone els and the BH has a link of -60 with 2 jitter so it was not a bad link on BH

Hi

I see you guys use 900 Mhz? We have come out with a 17.5 and 14.5 Dbi Yagi antenna. If you’re interested please go to our web site and take a look. If you have any questions give me a call.
