Pag 55 Issue 2 Canopy 9.5 Rel. Notes:
64 Bytes/fragment x 2 fragments/slot x 34 slots/frame x 400 frames/sec x 8 bits/byte = 14 Mbps
If we have 200 costumers (SMs Lite with license 512to2000):
- S Dn = 300 kbps
- Dn B = 3.000 mbits
- S Up = 200 kbps
- Up B = 1.000 mbits
with 70% occupancy (140 users connected), as our users will notice your speed?
How many kbps?
They will use the youtube right?
They will download a file from 5 Mbytes in how long?
If this scenario change, and becomes 100 simultaneos costumers?
How our users will notice your speed? How many kbps?
They will use the youtube right?
They will download a file from 5 Mbytes in how long?
Thank you.
Simply put… poorly.
14mb /140 subscribers you have 100k each person… at 75% dl you have 75k downlink you will see poor performance high latency.
The radio’s have a max addressable range of 200 SM that doesn’t mean it will run well with 200 SMs on it. More importantly is your PPS and Framing. a max number of SMs per ap is not a fixed number. People use the web differently. if you are using a classic radio you will only have 5.25mb downlink… 5 people cruzing you tube will jam your radio. And 300k per second is considered midband not broadband and you will get people mad simply because they expect more than a little faster than dialup.
We as Wisp are in an ever more demanding market wear 3MB (atleast in our area) is expected. and the demand will only increase as the internet changes, if you are new to the business, you might want to spend some more time looking at how people use the web rather than “I have x bandwidth how can I squeeze every penny from it” before you can find a bottom line you need to understand your market and your competition. We have grown to be the largest wisp in our area and putting a few out on the way due to the lack of understanding of what customers expect and only caring about profit per Meg. Obviously we are in business to make money, but being in the internet service business requires much more than how many people can I shove onto this AP.
We have some 900 APs that also have a “limit” of 200 SMs that we consider full with only 30 people on them, because the APs are running at a very high usage during busy times, on the other hand we have another 900 AP with 56 customers and it’s a little less busy the our panel with 30. With that sad, if we had 25 more people on the busy AP we would start getting complaints and be dealing with an overloaded AP which always results in mad customers, bad image and no customer loyalty. In most areas its only a matter of time until someone comes to give you competition and if you haven’t done a good job with your customers, your going to be the company closing the doors.
