AFC and 46XX after October 1st

With stuff shutting down, what will happen with AFC radios?

If you have an actively working/deployed 6GHz radio, it will continue to work as it only needs to reach the AFC @ Qualcomm. If you have an older radio that is missing it’s AFC cert, then you will need to onboard it into cnMaestro cloud and update the firmware which will automatically install the cert. If cnMaestro cloud is no longer available, then you will not be able to get this cert installed without help from Cambium Support. If Cambium support is no longer available, then you may not be able to get radios without a cert working.

I do know that the ePMP team is hoping that they will be able to provide a solution for these radios without a cert in the future, but nothing has been cemented yet.

Can you elaborate on the firmware part? Are you saying if your radio has for example 5.10.3 or later than its good? Or is it simply if you’re currently using 6Ghz with the AFC, than you have the cert in firmware you need. I’m not sure when this expires or any other details on it yet.

If the radio is missing the cert and throws an error with something about the needing to contact Cambium support to fix the AFC issue, then upgrading to any more recent firmware via cnMaestro cloud will most likely resolve the issue.

Does anyone know how long certs are good for?

Its not uncommon for these things to expire and need a renewal.

That’s a great question, I am also curious.

The AFC tokens (certificates) are for life.

How is the Token different from the service license. It was my understanding that they are good for 7 years to communicate with the QUALCOMM server to obtain the grant.
