Not really a PMP specific issue, but:
We are looking into the possibility of needing a wireless engineer for our future BDC information. Does anyone have a suggestion on the best way to find one to suit our needs? Any recommended companies out there that don’t charge an arm and a leg?
Might be worth stating where you’re located and more specifics on what’s required
We are based in Illinois. Per the BDC documentation I have seen, they are going to require certification by an engineer once the current waiver expires; https://www.fcc.gov/document/waiver-bdc-engineering-certification-extended-conditions
I think you may need to review the state-licensed engineers in Illinois or if there are federal licensing programs I am not aware of and ask them if any of them assert they are qualified also concerning RF as if affects broadband or not. My guess would be something like though dentists are likely state-licensed in Illinois, RF engineers are not even though other engineering tasks are.
Reviewing IDFPR | State Board of Professional Engineers you might be able to correspond with the board or even the chairperson who is listed as Brian M. Berg, Jr. and ask direct questions like does the authority of the State of Illinois in licensing engineers clearly cover RF and would RF be outside of the scope of their current licensing authority or at least outside of it in a way that they cannot get insured if they allege it is within their scope of authority. If they do they might be able to give you a list of engineers or engineering firms in the state which are licensed concerning RF as opposed to something like mechanical engineering. In Illinnois it appears there is a “Professional Engineering Act” that likely discusses the engineering tasks covered by their licensing program. I would assume anything outside of that document isn’t technically covered by the licensing of Illinois from a quick read of that web page.
