Cacti Polling Interval

Anyone know how to change the polling interval on CactiEZ?

I need to increase the time between polls. 25% of my traffic is SNMP

http://x.x.x.x/settings.php?tab=misc

under the configuration link click on misc

there are several different polling options.

if you are at 25% network usage due to monitoring is there a better place you can put the server?

you could also put the cacti box maybe behind an SM (i know its a waste) and put the through put on the SM pretty low.

That’s the setting to scan for devices, but not the actual poller frequency.

If I double the time between polls, I will 1/2 the amount of traffic from polling.

Jerry,

I see your using the CactiEZ and loving it. I’m just getting started with Cacti for my canopy network. I can’t seem to figure out the correct host template or plugin to use. Can you offer some assistance?

Thank You,

Dave

Just import the templates using the Import Templates function.

For MacTrack, use your edge switch to get the MAC/IP tables.

I suggest only monitoring network devices, and business customers (use it as a selling tool).

How do I check how much of our traffic is because of SNMP?

NTop will show you the various types of traffic and the % of each

Really lowered the volume of SNMP traffic by eliminating some of the unnecessary graphs.

Deleted
SM Session status (if it’s not registered it won’t matter)
SM RSSI (seems to be useless)
SM Temperature (never mattered)
AP Temperature
AP Ethernet Link (if it drops it won’t matter)
AP GPS Link (it either works or it doesn’t)

Disabled monitoring of unused switch ports

SNMP Traffic dropped from 36% to 10%.

Very good to know, thank you!

If you still care, i believe the poller is invoked by a line in /etc/crontab

Read for syntax
