Can I setup VPN on a SM with NAT enabled?

Yes, if you are on release 4.2.x or higher.

Release 4.1 implemented NAT (Network Address Translation) on Canopy SMs, but didn't support NAT pass-through of VPNs (Virtual Private Networks). With Release 4.2, the most popular VPN implementation, L2TP over IPSec (Level 2 Tunneling Protocol over IP Security), is now passed through NAT. VPNs are often required in corporate work-at-home situations, as well as other connections requiring the security of a virtual private network.

The latest operating systems from Microsoft (Windows XP) and Apple (Panther) provide an option to select either L2TP over IPSec or PPTP (Point to Point Tunneling Protocol) for a VPN. Release 4.2 supports L2TP over IPSec, but does not support PPTP.

Once you install Release 4.2, the L2TP over IPSec VPN will work through NAT. There is nothing to select or enable or turn on.
