CMM is out of ports, What to do?

Our CMM Micro is our of ports for the number of APs and BHs on one of our towers. First, what can I do and second, what would be the best thing to do to be able to add more equipment?

Situation: Tower has 3 APs, and 3 Backhauls on it, using up 6 on my 8 ports. I need to add 3 more APs, giving me a total ot 9 pieces of equipment. Plus, I would like ot keep a port open for onsite maintanence that won’t casue a down time for customers if I need to plug into the tower.

I have a flat network, all towers are setup the same with 1 CMM micro, 3 APs, and usually 2 backhauls.

Can I use a simple switch/hub to add ports? Am I going to have to install an extra CMM micro?

Thanks in advance,

Roy

If you don’t use another CMM Micro you will need to assess what kind of management you’ll need in the future (ie if you ever implement VLANs), as well as something for timing and power control like a SyncPipe and SyncInjector setup. I would strongly consider staying with some form of managed switch (this includes the CMM Micro) to keep broadcast storm issues down. As well stay away from hubs, they are nothing but trouble.

Ok, so I'll throw in another CMM Micro at the tower. Do I just connect the two CMMs together, say from Port 8 on CMM micro 1 to Port 1 on CMM micro 2, so that all the traffic can utilize the same BHs?

Yes that is what you need to do being that both are switches and use whichever port is available. be sure not to turn on power for those particualr ports. you will also need sync as well. you can either put another gps antenna up or you can utilize the timing port on the cmm and run a sync cable from CMM #1(with sync already) to CMM #2. Set the gps to timing port(slave) instead of gps(master). This sync cable is also a little different than one to an ap. pins 1 and 6 goto pins 2 and 5 respectively on both ends.
