CNUT 'bricked' a 4.0.1 SM when updating to 7.3.6

:?: We tried to used CNUT to update a Hardware Version 8 SM from 4.0.1 to 7.3.6. We were successful on our first attempt. :smiley:

On our second attempt, the CNUT updater log showed it was in the “Programming” stage. The LEDs on the SM went dark, and stayed dark ‘forever’. :oops:
This unit’s LEDs do not light now. It does eventually get warm if left plugged into the PI long enough tho.

:idea: Anybody have any idea of what might have happened?

…or how to recover, if possible? :?:

The upgrade path should be:

4.0.x -> 4.23 -> 6.1 -> 7.0.7 -> 7.29 -> 7.36 -> 8.1.5.1 -> 8.2.7

We looked on the moto site and the earliest that appeared to be available was 7.3.6… it worked on one SM - also it’s curious that the CNUT software isn’t ‘intelligent’ about it’s upgrade path… i.e. maybe it could say :idea: ‘Can not upgrade to 7.3.6: The upgrade path should be- 4.0.x -> 4.23 -> 6.1 -> 7.0.7 -> 7.29 -> 7.36 -> 8.1.5.1 -> 8.2.7’

=)

so is there any way to un-brick this hardware :?:

I have all the legacy version with manuals if you want them PM me.
Always follow the upgrade path to avoid “bricking” the SM’s, because once bricked they are just an expensive paperweight.
