connectivity in africa

Greeting to all,

we are looking to connect hotel to a cell tower about 40 mile (60km ) away. we are new to this technology (our core business is satellite connectivity)

i am looking into the PTP 650. the specs states 124 miles connectivity. however, some of the terrain is a gongle with very high and dense trees. is somebody has the expirence to advise us if this application will work?

thanks,

DD

Hi,

Your best option is to download the LINKPlanner (free) from https://support.cambiumnetworks.com/files/linkplanner/. You can enter the latitude and longitude of your 2 sites and create a link between them. If you generate an access token at https://support.cambiumnetworks.com/preferences/linkplanner, LINKPlanner will automatically retrieve the terrain profile for the link. You can then choose from various Cambium radios, including PTP650, to see how they will perform over that distance.

If you have any questions about the LINKPlanner, feel free to raise them over at http://community.cambiumnetworks.com/t5/LINK-Planner/bd-p/forums_management_link_planner.

Hope that helps,

Simon

How did your planning and installation perform?

Hi Guys,

With the given EIRP limit, how will you gonna run a link at the given distance of 40km?

Gerry,

The allowable EIRP (Tx power plus antenna gain) will vary from country to country.  In most places where 5.8GHz is allowed the EIRP limits can (and do) meet 40 km links and beyond.

Of course the dense foliage in the original post will be problematic even in short distances at 5.8GHz.

Again, the LINKPlanner is the best tool to analyze this in a real-world scenario.

Also, keepin mind that hte connectorized PTP 650 can be fitted with up to an 8 foot parabolic dish to give very high link budgets for the most difficult links.
