Frequent Registrations 8.2 AP to 7.2.9 900Mhz CPE ??

This is a New POP with a single V8.2 P10 900Mhz-AP on a MTI 120 HPol external antenna.

We run 7.2.9 or 7.3.6 everywhere. This is our first P10, 8.2 AP.

This is the first customer on this AP, and the CPE has registered over 60 times in less than 24 hours.

I’ve disabled 2X mode on the AP and rebooted it and the CPE has Registered 6 times in the past hour.

2x is disabled on the CPE.

AP is not synced (yet). All of our other AP’s are. I can’t ‘see’ this AP from any of our other Towers, and the Spectrum analyzer on this AP and CPE (when the AP is off) shows the entire spectrum at -85 or better, so I don’t ‘think’ it’s a interfernce issue.

AP Max range is set to 10 miles. 2 Control Slots, no 2X, 915 Mhz, I’ve tried all three of the ‘standard’ channels as well though - no difference.

This sub is near the edge of a ‘cliff’ facing the AP; There’s a small amount of foliage on the CPE side, nothing on the AP side, about 45 meters clearance on most of the link except for the last ~150 meters before the CPE.

The CPE is mounted at ~6 meters.

I just noticed while typiing this : Why is it that the CPE reports the link distance at 6517 feet and the AP reports it at 19551 feet ??

Google Earth shows the shot to be 3.71 miles, so the AP looks like it has it right - the CPE is off by a factor of EXACTLY 3 !!

Could this problem be related to a bad bounce? Or is it a compatibility issue between 8.2 and 7.2.9.

My first effort would be to upgrade the firmware on both units. AP should go to 8.2.2, but only because you can’t take it back to 7.3.6. SM should go to 7.3.6. If you still see trouble, let us know then.

I would think that multipath reflections should give you a further measure, not closer, and also not a factor of three. Seems quite odd.
