Interference problems checklist?

We are putting together a checklist of steps to do when interference is knocking SMs offline.
I would love everyone’s input on things to add/remove/change to this list.

1. Record customer wireless equipment such as cordless phones, baby monitors, etc (Brand/Model/FCC ID if available)
a. Determine if interference is possible from this equipment by trying to find frequency it operates on
b. Run 3-5 minute spectrum analysis

2. Service call to attempt to improve customer received signal [2-5 days monitor afterward]
a. Service tech will check property for location with less interference and may relocate on roof/property. Complete with on-site 3-5 minute spectrum analysis.

3. Service call to replace customer Subscriber Module, Antenna, & Surge Suppressor [2-5 days monitor afterward]
a. 2-5 minute spectrum analysis also

4. Two service calls at different times of day
a. attempt to locate interference
b. record 2-5 minute spectrum analysis

5. Map customer on interference map to search for patterns and future interference cases

  1. Attach 100’ tow-strap to competitors tower. Attach other end to hitch on F-550 bucket truck. Drive away.

Oh how I want to do this somedays!

Somewhere in there I’d check historical logs. Prizm users get graphs of some RF statistics like jitter, but this can be easily done through something like Cacti via SNMP.

As for #3, I’d include something like change to a different antenna. Get rid of the integrated SM, maybe toss in a yagi or parabolic grid with a nice narrow beam and good front-to-back separation.

Find that omni with no GPS sync and see if that friend with the .50 caliber rifle is up for some target practice…

wow, thats alot of truck rolls, you realize your rolling 4 times?

Hire a hitman to whack the customer, but only if theyre direct debit payers
