Good afternoon
We are seeing a problem on some cambium epmp 1000 / 3000 radio bridges with packets passing through the ipsec protocol. In some cases, rebooting helps, sometimes disabling the L3 firewall helps. If rebooting is only a temporary solution. Can you tell me what the reason is? There are many devices, the firmware is the same on all, the problem is only on some.
Most likely packet fragmentation.
Your MTU on customer SMs should be 1500 and if you are using pppoe then you need to set the tcp-mss adjust down to 1492.
However your network ptp links need more than 1500 to accommodate packets that grow larger than 1500. It will do no harm on your backbone to run a larger mtu and it is suggested to run as large of MTU as the lowest capable link. In the case of epmp this is 1700, so use 1700 everywhere except customer SMs and unless another device can not handle an mtu of 1700, then lower it. Make sure that the switches and routers on your network are properly set to use an mtu of 1700 though or you will have mtu mismatches.
