Mesh config via cnMaestro [Feature request]

Hello,

setting up a MESH setup with e4x0/e50x/e600, there's no possibility to configure on cnMaestro as an override for BASE / CLIENT (and, eventually, recovery) APs.

Currently the only way I found is to setup two AP Groups, one with CLIENT template and the other with BASE template, but it's only a bad workaround.

So the BASE / CLIENT / RECOVERY override must be present, as nowadays the only possible override PER AP is name, IP adddress, phy port config, and VLANs.

Thank you,

Hello Sandro,

We are in the process of adding override support for WLANs for E-series and R-series devices.  Part of this will be to allow per-device overrides for Enabling/Disabling individual WLANs on E-series devices.  This should make it possible to create a single AP Group with both BASE and CLIENT Mesh WLANs and then enable/disable the proper WLANs on a per-device basis.  Would this cover your use-case and work in practice?

You can try this out immediately using User-defined Overrides.  The below Knowledge Base article goes over the steps for doing this.  Keep in mind that for E-series, the CLI commands entered are based on the WLAN index, so it is important that they match the WLAN ordering you set in the AP Group.

Discussion of what WLANs Overrdes to include for both R-series and E-series is being held in the below thread.  Please add to the discussion if there are any specific parameters that you feel should be included.

I think YES for WLANs on a per-device, now I must make two AP Group and three WLAN:

1 - WLAN_MESH_BASE (5Ghz)

2 - WLAN_MESH_CLIENT (5Ghz)

3 - WLAN_FOR_CLIENTS (5Ghz adn 2,4Ghz)

And for MESH WLANs need monitored IP and retries too as option in WLAN config.

Sandro,

There is a provision on cnPilot devices which will enable Mesh base or client automatically based on certain flags on device. This feature is called as "Mesh Auto Detect Backhaul"

You can configure a single AP group to all mesh devices and based on ethernet connectivity of device, Mesh client WLAN profile is enabled/disabled.

  • If ethernet is connected, mesh client WLAN profile is disabled.
  • If ethernet is down, mesh client is enabled and mesh base is enabled as well.

PFA PIC for reference. Hope, this should help you to configure devices using one single AP Group profile.

Thank You.
