MGMT cable

Hi.

We are planning PTP links with LinkPlanner which is great tool to have.

We are missing one option. Let's say we are planning PTP820s link and customer would like to have also additional MGMT cable. In that case we would need 2 surge suppressors more on each side, that would reflect in BOM, which is important part when ordering eyuipement.

What do you think about adding options for additional cables?

Thanks

Hi,

Glad you are finding LINKPlanner useful and thank you for your suggestion. We are re-looking at the BOM for the PTP 820 configurations and will take this into consideration.

In the meantime do you know that you can edit the quantities in the BOM at a link level? If you want to add additional surge suppressors to a particular link you can do this by clicking in the Qty cell for the surge suppressor row and then changing the quantity to the value you require. Any cells where you increase the value from the minimum recommended will be shown in green, if you reduce the quantity below the minimum recommended the whole row will turn red.

You can increase the number of cable drums of Cat5E required on a given link, which will be added to the total in the composite BOM for the network, however LINKPlanner does rationalize the number of drums used for the network based on the total length of each link, so this may result in more drums in the final BOM than may be required as it will simply add in any extra drums and if you decide that the drum added to a link is sufficient for both data and management, this may not be included in the final composite BOM.

Regards,

Rachel

Hi.

Thank you for fast resposnse and fingers crossed for implementing this future in next releases.

Thank you for this infomations, I didn't know that we can change the quantity by ourselves.

Could you please explain a little more about why does LinkPlanner use this kind of behavour:

"...however LINKPlanner does rationalize the number of drums used for the network based on the total length of each link..."

Wouldn't make more sense to use the height of tower and not link length? Let's say, you have tower max height 50m and you are going to install bridge at 40m, so you would need aprox. 60m of cable - of course that depend from tower to tower, but just for a rough estimate.

Thanks

Hi,

Sorry I meant to say total length of each cable, which as you say is dependent on the antenna height.

Thanks for clarifying.
