Do you know which of the models/versions does traffic shaping?

All the Mikrotik models do traffic shaping. The OS is the same for all the platform.
Just check the cpu speed if you need more power (I suggest you RB600 or RB1000).

Jerry or any one else, can you clarify or explain Rate limits at the switch is a good thing? And if so, what should the limit be 1k, 2k?

Thanks
Heath

If you are blocking multicast at the SM or running the SM in NAT, there will be virtually no multicast traffic on your network.

If you feel like you need to set it, 5k would be a good place to start.

ok thanks. I guess I don’t need to switch it on the switch:)

Another vote for Mikrotik routers at each tower. VERY powerful featureset.

We have run them for a couple years with great results.

Is DPI still grey area legal, or is accepted as generally not an invasion of privacy or whatnot?

Speaking of DPI, as operators on the US does this pose any legal ramifications to you? Do you lose or are you at risk of losing DMCA safe harbor priviledges since you “watch” all of your customers pirating content? (or possibly at risk for a lawsuit from the MAFIAA)

Sorry for the highjack, I blame thatoneguysteve :stuck_out_tongue:
