New FCC Regulation?

For all those ISP…

Was there a new FCC regulation acquiring following fees?
Public Utility Assessment Fee
State 911 Equalization Surcharge
TX Universal Service Fund Surchage
Texas TIF Reimbursement Fee

As an ISP, we were tax exempt on our Fiber. But then, starting last month we’re being charged above fees. I called the vendor, and they said it’s new rules out by FCC. I googled but couldn’t find the info.

Not being in texas, I googled each one of those separately. I found a few interesting things... Most of which indicate that these might not be applicable to you, but are being charged to you possibly due to a billing error..

See http://www.texaspolicy.com/pdf/2007-03- ... -BHill.pdf

Some Like the 911 equalization surcharge appears to only long distance.. So I'd dig a bit deeper, and possibly ask your carrier to please point you toward the legislation which requires the collection of these taxes.

My experience is that although internet access is usually pretty much tax-exempt, many carriers are sloppy in their billing and bill the taxes when they should not.

Thanks for the info. I too could not find any new legislation in Texas regarding these taxes to ISP’s. We had this same issue 3 years ago, and it took months to get the taxes removed and credited. Now it’s happening all over again with same people.

It’s been two weeks since I requested the document regarding these changes, but have not heard any response other than they are looking for it. I’m curious what their responses will be this time.
