New Site: Competitor on 3 channels.....advice

in regard to your 900 alvarion questions, call an alvarion distributor and ask about the new 900 vl, good luck with that though, we never could get any info.

if you lay your hands on an old alvarion baii900, you can go in and configure its sensitivity to where it basically ignores everythting and will transmit., get a dirt cheap directional antenna, find 7 of the lowest end 900mhz amplifiers you can, run them in series. Point this right at his cluster. It wont help you, but it will insure he feels your pain.

I think i’ll wait till i’m a bit more established before i get to doing any of that. I like your thinking.

How close could i throw up 900 sectors and get buy with it…?? Like if i had another spot 1.5mi away?

Typically 900 sites are ~10 miles apart with careful frequency planning and coordination. You could go 1.5mi away as long as you don’t have anything pointed in his direction.

Keep in mind, 900 is unlicensed, the other guy does not have exclusive rights to those frequencies. Part-15 rules say he must accept any interference from outside sources. This is where integrity and professionalism come into play. As the new guy, it is on you to make every attempt to work with the incumbent. Coordinating frequencies, DL%, control slots, and max distance are the only way you are going to be able to operate in the same area.

As I said, I wouldn’t even waste time with 900. As the two of you add SMs, you will start causing each other interference and will quickly make the 900 spectrum unusable for both of you forcing you to make an expensive change to another frequency.

and is also very illegal

I’m sure he said that in jest
TdT

Maybe this should be a new topic, but has anyone ever had trouble getting setup to take credit cards. A couple people i have tried said Visa/MC say ISP’s are a high risk and want to charge ridiculous rates, if the approve you at all.

Thoughts?

Why you guys insist on 900?? many trees?
Use another frec.

2.4 for out of town. 900 in town. Lots of big oaks and maples.

Alvarion BAII 900 can be made to work ok as long as you are good with offering speeds 1meg or less.

The new Alvarion 900 VL equipment uses OFDM, it is not FHSS so it won’t do you any good.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but couldn’t you use GPS sync and use a SM with AP Eval to find out how many control slots he is using? I really don’t see why you need to coordinate with him at all.

VLAN1 - aren’t you guys still using the old Alvarion 900 gear on a couple of towers or did you give that up?

unfortunately yes. I hate that stuff with a passion.
