Is there a roadmap for PMP on 3Ghz or has Cambium reached the end of development with the product finishing with 8x8 MU-MIMO and 256QAM?
I have yet to see one. Typically, the PMP450 team will flesh out 5GHz product line updates first and then follow up with 3GHz.
I’ve been pushing for a revamp of the 450m 3GHz which would keep it at 8x8 and add 1024QAM, and 2CA (up to 80MHz aggregate) or 4CA (up to 160MHz aggregate), along with a revised SM to take advantage of the new AP capabilities. An alternative plan I’ve pushed is to leave the current 8x8 AP as-is, but instead, introduce a 4x4 AP with 1024QAM, and 2 or 4CA.
I’ve been told it’s easier/cheaper to add more carriers then it is to increase the channel width, so that’s something that we can take advantage of at least here in the USA with the way the CBRS spectrum operates (grants are in 10MHz chunks). So we’d hopefully avoid the complexity and design costs associated with a radio like the 450v that (will eventually) support up to 4x 100MHz carriers.
In New Zealand it’s unlikely we will get more 3Ghz spectrum and 5G is already outperforming 450M because of much higher MIMO, higher QAM and higher EIRP; so better performing hardware is on my wishlist.
I’ve been hammering Cambium regarding their 450 line and what I need it to do. I’m sure @CambiumMatt would love to hear from you and your needs for the 450 line.
Any word if the uplink interference cancellation feature is still coming to the CBRS side? I haven’t seen that discussed much lately. We’re heavily invested in the PMP450 CBRS side and would love to see higher modulation rates, but also better handling of interference. We have a lot of 4G and 5G starting to be deployed in our areas so we need to be able to still work in a high noise level environment.
I know you mention wider channel widths are high cost for them, but if they could get the currently line to increase to 50mhz for a little more throughput, I think that would help us out being able to deliver 100mbps plans to more clients.
Have you tried out the uplink interference cancellation feature on 450m 5GHz yet? We have, and while it resulted in minor performance gains over having it turned off, it was nothing close to performing like Tarana. If you’re expecting this to save you from carrier-level RF energy on CBRS, then I think you will be very disappointed.
Your best bet (and really only with 450) is to sync your radios with theirs.
In regards to being able to deliver 100mbps plans to clients, the deep VC queue optimization firmware update is going to (supposedly) go a long way to making this possible, especially when larger channel widths (30/40MHz) and 5ms frames are used. That update is coming this fall.
Yeah, I’ve testing out the cancellation on 5Ghz and didn’t see much improvement, but was hoping the CBRS uplink cancellation would help with some sites that are seeing uplink issues.
I hoping the Deep VC queue comes out soon for beta testing to see if we see any major improvements.
I was wondering if there is any update on this?
Should we keep investing in the 3Ghz PMP platform or has it reached the end of the line?
Competing 5G products on 3Ghz keep improving and costs keep coming down.
The Cambium open house @ WISPAPALOOZA is in just a week, my guess is that they’re waiting until then to announce any new products.
