PMP450v - trying to figure out carriers and component carriers

We have our hands on one PMP450v AP and some PMP450v 4X4 SMs and we are working on getting familiar with them. Some of the behavior when we configure carriers and component carriers seems a little odd. The equipment isn’t connected to any network and we’re not trying to involve an AFC yet. We’re just using the AP and SM on the floor in our office and trying to get the SM to register with the AP. We’re also involving a PMP450i and trying to get it to register with the AP.

The good news - we were able to successfully register the 450v SM on the AP, with carrier aggregation on two 20 MHz component carriers within one 5.7 GHz carrier. The 450i was also able to register on one of the CCs at the same time.

The challenging part - there were many times during testing when neither SM could register on the AP. The SM’s AP Evaluation tools weren’t able to detect any beacon. When this occurred we reset everything by putting the CC settings on the AP to None. Then we reconfigured and reactivated the same carrier and CC settings. The SMs always found the beacon and registered right away after we did this reset. It seemed like the order that we did things mattered. It looked like there were times when the AP was not broadcasting the beacon, but at other times, with the exact same configuration when the beacon was being detected by both SMs.

Am I missing something? Is there any documentation that provides more detail on component carriers than there is in the configuration guide? Has anyone else noticed anything similar to what I described?
Thanks
Don

I haven’t had the same specific set of issues you describe but have had times when a 450b doesn’t see the AP at all, or just sees one carrier - even if both are in 5Ghz. In those instances I’ve limited the scan list on the 450b sm to only the frequency I want it to connect on and it has.

Obviously this isn’t a good solution, as the AP frequency might change at some point in the future and then you have to remember to reconfigure the SM first.

What firmware are you using? With how new the 450v is and AFC support on it, I’d highly recommend updating your radios to the latest beta, 24.1.1 (Build BETA-2).

If you’re using 5GHz SM’s, make sure those are updated to 24.1.1 (Build BETA-2) and I’d configure the 450v’s first carrier in the 5GHz band.

Are you using the 450v just for 5GHz SMs or have you deployed 6GHz SMs?

I have 4 450v units and 2 350b6 in addition to 5Ghz 450b. This is just a test setup in my case. I only have paying customers on ePMP 4600 right now.

We’re using 24.1. I will try upgrading to 24.1.1 Beta -2
Thanks for your reply to my post.
