Summary:

The PTP 820 allows the use of Ethernet Port 1 and Ethernet Port 2 for two different data networks. We can transfer data from two networks through a single radio port.

 Cause:

When we require to transfer data from two different networks we must use Ethernet port segregation.

We must configure the multi-point services type for two networks.

We require to add the Ethernet port and the radio ports under the service points. The service point type should be Service Access Point (SAP) for the Ethernet interface and Service Network Point (SNP) for the Radio interface. The management service must be out-of-band management in this type of configuration.

There will be 2 separate service IDs for data services and they should be configured as multi point services.  The management service will use out-of-band management. We have to add an S-VLAN on all the service ids for the Radio Slot 2 Port 1 including the management service. We must add 3 different S-VLANs to segregate the traffic. The S-VLANs will be on the wireless side.

Procedure for configuring the MP and MNG services:

  1. From Ethernet > Services click the Add button.
  2. In the Service Type field select the service type: MP for Multipoint.  Click Apply.
  3. Select the newly created service and click the Service Points button.
  4. Click the Add button and set the Predefined options to SAP, All-2-One . Set the Interface Location to Ethernet: Slot 1, Port 1.  Click Apply.
  5. Click the Add button again and select the service point type as SNP, s-tag. Set the Interface Location to Radio: Slot 2, Port 1.  Set the S-Vlan encapsulation to a unique VLAN for this service.    Click Apply.
  6. Repeat steps 1 through 5 to add a second data service, this time using Ethernet: Slot 1, Port 2.
  7. From the Services table, select the MNG service and click the Service Points button.
  8. Click the Add button and set the Predefined options to Option #2 (MNG, s-tag). Set the Interface Location to Radio: Slot 2, Port 1.  Set the S-Vlan encapsulation to a unique VLAN for this service.  Click Apply.
  9. The S-VLAN should be different for all the services so that the data traffic gets separated on the radio port.
  10. In this configuration, we can only use out-of-band management through the MNG port.
  11. Repeat these steps at both ends of the link.

Thanks for the above post. I recently have setup a similar deployment with 820s. What would be the best way to control the traffic over the shared radio? I did some testing and notice that when we load traffic up on for example Ethernet port 1 and then load traffic up on Ethernet port 2 that we notice a drop in bandwidth on ethernet port 1. So that if ethernet port 1 and ethernet port 2 are using the total link bandwidth that is could be a 50/50 split?
