I hope at some point we get some guidance as to what happens with the PTP products. I’m thinking of the licensed PTP850 products that are Ceragon under the hood. For example, if we have a NIB PTP850C with no activation keys, will we still be able to buy and activate keys in the future? If not, will Ceragon be able to help us? I’m sure people using the various unlicensed PTP products will also want to know their fate.
I, too, would like to know the answer to this question.
Following as I wish to know as well.
Also following. I have a LOT of spare Cambium PTP820S and 820C sat in inventory. I’d hate for them to be bricks. Surely this is money for jam and Airspan having the fixed wireless products would be taking over the licensing?
There was nothing about the PTP 8XX series in any of the Airspan press releases, so it’s unlikely that Airspan will be taking over licensing. If it does end up just getting killed off, maybe Ceregon will be able to do something with those radios.
If nobody buys them, it would be an awful shame if an employee accidentally leaked the licensing source code on their last day at work.
scracha, I doubt Cambium creates the licenses. I think they get Ceragon to do it.
I have a couple of the keyed 850C radios here still in sealed boxes and the labels indicate they were shipped from Ceragon direct to Cambium’s KY fulfillment center.
I’ve never played with an IP20 or IP50, but I wonder how much they differ from the Cambium branded radios other than the logo on the web pages. It’s probably like the PTP400/500 before Motorola acquired Orthogon, they were the same radios except for branding.
Thanks. My understanding is that they’re ceragon radios flashed with Cambium firmware so if it all turns to poo, there may or may not be a means for Ceragon to license them. Not something we really want to take a chance on considering the price of them.
You say that you have a lot of spares, I assume with no activation keys. What do you plan on doing?
If you rush to buy entitlements in the next few days and activate them for your serial numbers, will you be able to complete the process before, as you say, all turns to poo?
Then there’s the problem that the keys are crazy expensive without a volume buy price exception from your RSM (assuming your RSM still works there, mine doesn’t). I think it’s actually cheaper to buy the new keyed radios than to buy keys for old unkeyed radios.
If neither Airspan nor whatever ePMP becomes is going to take over the PTP8xx series, and they don’t work out something with Ceragon, maybe Star Microwave could take over licensing (and RMAs) like they did for Exalt.
A possible complication - was Ceragon one of the creditors, and how much of a beating did they take?
