PTP550 TDD Sync

HI When will the TDD sync support available on PTP550.

Will it support uGPS when the sync support available? Tks.

rgd,

Eric

Hi Eric,

GPS sync from CMM5 will be supported on PTP550 starting 4.3 FW version.

It is supposed to be released in November.

Thnak you.

HI,

Thanks for the updates.

if GPS sync is not deploy, what is the guard band needed between 2 colocated PTP550 links.

1)Assume using 40mhz channle (channel bonding not enable) on 5.8Ghz band

2) any issue to colocate 2 PTP550 links with 60Mhz channel (channel A 40Mhz + channel B 20Mhz) on 5.8 Band only?

Regards,

Eric

Hi ..any body from Cambium can help on my below questions? Thanks.

if GPS sync is not deploy, what is the guard band needed between 2 colocated PTP550 links.

1)Assume using 40mhz channle (channel bonding not enable) on 5.8Ghz band

2) any issue to colocate 2 PTP550 links with 60Mhz channel (channel A 40Mhz + channel B 20Mhz) on 5.8 Band only?

The PTP550 is closely related to the ePMP line, and Cambium staff have stated in regards to ePMP guard bands: "If you don't sync them, then we recommend 2X the channel bandwidth as the guard band. For example: if the sectors are running 20 MHz channels, then we recommend 40 MHz of guard band between the adjacent sectors."

In regards to question 1:

So if you had two un-sync'd PTP550's on the same tower, and you want to use a single 40MHz channel for each, then you'd need 80MHz of seperation between them, which would not be possible, because the 5.8 band only has about 100MHz of spectrum. If you could create some physical seperation between the PTP550's and do some testing, you might be able to reduce the amount of guard band needed. Also, if you could use the 5.1, or 5.4 band for one of the radios, or use a smaller channel width on one or both radios, that would give you the required guard band.

In regards to question 2:

I think you'd run into the same problems with the lack of space in the 5.8 band for an appropriate guard band. You're going to need to put one radio on a different band, or use smaller channel widths.

In the past, with Cambium's other PTP offerings, you could have one radio generate sync and then share the sync with other, similar radios on the same tower. While this isn't GPS sync, it would provide local sync of devices, and thus be able to reduce or elimnate the guard band between local radios. I'm not sure if the PTP550 will support this feature, and the current firmware revision 4.1.3 doesn't seem to support any sync features. Maybe a Cambium staff member can shed some additional light on sync options for the PTP550.

Not to sidetrack the original topic - but I'm surprised the Cambium marketing folks didn't name it in the ePMP line.  Or even name it the ePTP550 maybe.  You're corrent, it definitely feels like a ePMP line product.
