Question Regarding BAM

HI There,

I’ve just purchased a copy off BAM and my supplier asked me a very concerning question. They wanted to know what my BAM servers MAC address is. Now I know you guys need to protect your software but surely there must be better copy protection out there.

Now my problem is what happens if my Ethernet card blows up or I need to quickly change my BAM to a different server? I can’t afford for my network to be down while I wait for Motorola to issue me a new License based on the net Mac address for either the new server or the new Ethernet.

Steph,
The MAC address used does not actually have to be a MAC of a NIC in the BAM server. As long as the BAM server license can find the MAC somewhere in the network then it will work. So if you are running BAM and you decided to upgrade the server you can still use the same license file as long as the MAC is still associated to an IP on the network.

Correct... It's tied to the MAC address of the Licence Server...

/usr/local/Canopy/FLEXnet/lmutil lmhostid

will return the valid MAC address you need to use.
If not used it will not work.
