Shielded Cable at SM's

Hi Everyone…

We are new to the forum as we just fired up in April. We have installed seven customers to date and are running into problems using shielded cable at our sm’s. It seems that all of the installs with the shielded cable fails…we tested each with cable with a tester and the test shows a good cable, but when we try complete the install we end up changing out the shielded cable for regular cat 5 to get the customer online.

Are most of you using shielded cable from your sm to the surge suppressor/protector? If so what type of cable are you using? (we are using the recommended cable and tools from best-tronics) What about from the surge suppressor to the inside?

We have used STP for premise installs and not had any problems before. I suspect that you are experiencing issues related to the 300S. I know there have been a few posts here that have discussed the 300S and the issues related to the existing electrical ground system that you tie to.

How are you grounding your supressors?

To the electrical ground rod?

To a new rod?

We have discovered that we were using the wrong cable and RJ-45 connectors. Problem has been resolved. We are connecting the 300ss to the power company ground and trying to keep the lenght of ground wire to less than 20 feet.
