Substation

Does anyone have experience with 900MHz in a power substation?

I know the utilities do it all the time.

The noise from the substation concerns me though.

I have a customer hooked up reliably who is shooting over a substation. 8 or so miles to the AP.

I get problems shooting through power lines? There is a lot of RF noise from substations. What does the spectrum pick up?

I have installed them (900MHz and 5.x GHz) on several substations, for temporary applications or backup.

It’s best to use license type radio in VHF, UHF or Microwave because it’s a mission critical service, this is very important!

I have over 50+ substation and remote high voltage ( 134KV, 69KV, 34KV, 12.5KV, 7.2KV ) switches. Best is to use 450-470MHz radios and frame relay or DSL telco. USE BACKUPS!

ONE VERY IMPORTANT OBSERVATION

CAN ANYONE IMAGINE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF A SUBSTATION IS USING 8.X FIRMWARE AND A NONE SEPONSIVE SM? WHAT WOULD HAPPEN?
SOMETHING LIKE WHAT HAPPEN IN FLORIDA, NEW YORK?
DO NOT, DO NOT INSTALL A PRODUCT THAT WILL HANG IN A SUBSTATION, NEVER EVER!
