Terminating Shielded RJ45 Jacks to Cable...

How important is it to keep the metal to metal contact between the jack and the aluminum shielding in the cable? These rj45 plugs are not the “ez crimp” type in which you can push the pairs through the end.

It looks like I will have to modify the canopy unit’s cover, otherwise, it will not slide on because the cable is too thick.

Hello, We use an outdoor armored type cable on our installs. The only way to get the cable to fit in the module is to trim off aluminum shielding / armor aprox 5-6 inches, leaving the inner black CAT5 cable. This should allow you to place the cover back on.

What type of cable is it? If you don’t mind me asking.
