Watchdog function on ePMP

Interesting your vision ... we do not use Linux systems to control the network, we have a server with Win dude. Are there any alternative solutions, but for me the idea of automatic reeboot is essential. We have hundreds of active links, and every day someone is not working properly causing disconnections to our users/client.

And 'so complicated include this function ?? I'm not a programmer and do not know the complexity of your fantastic work ... and I apologize if I'm asking difficult things.

Hi guys,

Any update on this?

I have a LOT of Cambium units that get stuck with no aparent reason.

Grounding is okay, gigabit speeds negociated, but a lot of error. Multiple admins log-in un-available to upgrade software.

All of these are solved rebooting the unit, so it will be great if you can include a reboot after X days.

Thanks,

Also a watchdog function that if a certain number of ping to a host, got failed, the unit reboot automatically, it would be really appreciated!

Also, like other people said before, a scheduled reboot would be nice, but I think is less useful than an automatic watchdog!

Best regards,

Paolo

Hello!

So until the watchdog became "usefull" for cambium, then we will have to keep telling the customers to reboot the device.

:-(

CREO QUE AL TAMAÑO DE CAMBIUM UNA FUNCION ASI DEBERIA ESTAR DISPONIBLE

“TEST MODE” and “WATCHDOG” functions are much needed. I mean, i find ePMP to be very very stable, but still… we need to be make changes and test, without sawing the branch we are standing on. And, in the event of a FUBAR, we need systems to be able to reboot themselves.

I'd like to see a test mode as well... as far as a watchdog feature is concerned, I've never had an issue with an AP or SM that needed this feature, and typically if you need it there are other more serious issues that need to be addressed on your network. We do have all of our AP's plugged into remote managed power devices (packetflux rackinjectors), but I can't remember the last time we ever had to remote power cycle a Cambium device.

By “watchdog” I mean a ping watchdog, so that if its unable to ping a certain programmed IP for a proframmed time limit, it’ll reboot.

We use thst on other systems, particularly on PTP links, where the far side might be an hour away. That way we can make setting changes and ‘activate’ without saving… and if its unable to ping the AP for x minutes, it will reboot back to the last known good settings. Same functuon as “test” mode in a way, but a bit different.

You can tell yourself that you don't need a ping watchdog, but as customers we both want and need it. You never know what strange bugs exist in any given release of firmware. Ping watchdog on other platforms have saved hours of our techs driving out to remote locations.

Absolutely. For me, it's not so much just bugs or just the stability of the radio, and Eric is correct, Cambium have been very very reliable. But there are times when it's 4AM and we're trying to optimize performance on a link (for example) and it only takes one tired/wrong/typo and suddenly the link doesn't re-link after activating a change. Maybe I just wanted to see if 40Mhz was better or worse than 20Mhz, but what if that can't link for some reason?  Argh, and it's a two hour drive to revert the far side back to the previous settings. :(

NOW, on the upside, version 4.3.1 on the Force300's DOES HAVE a Ping Watchdog, so that's awesome. Cambium has also said those features will become available on 4.3.x on all other platforms shortly, as soon as that software is ready to go onto the e1K/e2K platforms too. :)

The one that gets me and the reason I miss the "test" option Ubiquiti had is trouble shooting Ethernet problems...  When something wonky is going on with the Ethernet and you think "Hmm I'll try locking down the port speed and see what happens"  on Ubiquiti you wouldn't give it a second thought but on Cambium your next thought is "Better not.. it's 2am and if I lose ethernet access I have to drive all the way out there and then I gotta set up a subscriber radio so I can connect to the AP via its wireless interface and put the port speed back on auto.."

And if you have  "can't access the radio via the wireless interface" option turned on.. well you're not getting into that AP until it's defaulted now..

Yes, that’s an excellent example why a TEST function is absolutely a basic necessity.

Hi all,

The watchdog functional has been introduced in the latest FW version.

Test function will be delivered in the release after the next release.

Thank you.

Thanks for the watchdog function,  I can only find it via the cli though.  Is there a somewhere where I can lookup the usage.  In show config I just see watchdogMode   4.  not sure what the "4" means.

For 802.11n products Watchdog will be available through UI in 4.4 FW version.

Thank you.

Finally!! What a great news... after about 3 years from my first post, we'll have that function over epmp1000/2000 platform!!

Thanks!

Please tell me where this function is available? I'm testing 4.4 rc23

Fedor, can you direct me where to enable the Ping Watchdog function in ePMP Version 4.701? If it is there, I haven’t found it.

Hi,

Please check Tools->Watchdog on the menu.

Thanks
