Hi we have an SM that brings the internet in for a station which in turn supplies four other stations, my question is how many customers can the SM take. What will over do it?

That really depends on the amount of bandwidth provided and overall usage. I’d recommend packet shaping with an inexpensive Mikrotik router to even things out amongst all workstations.
