[PTP550] Channel Bonding: Load balancing

Channel Bonding feature enables second radio on PTP550. By default only one radio is enabled.

20 MHz, 40 MHz and 80 MHz channels are supported by both radios.

Channel bonding applies a load balancing algorithm to balance the traffic flowing through PTP550 radios.

 Algorithm introduced in 4.1.1 FW and earlier FW is done on a per flow basis, where a flow is identified by:

  • Transport layer of OSI model protocol type: TCP/UDP;
  • IP packets source address and TCP/UDP port: Source IP & Source TCP/UDP Port;
  • IP packets receive address and TCP/UDP port: Receive IP & Receive Port TCP/UDP Port;

The algorithm considers the configured channel bandwidth of each radio and the number of flows passing through each radio. If both radios are configured with the same channel bandwidth then the load balancing algorithm will make sure that number of flows are equal on both radios. If the 2 radios are configured with different channel bandwidths then the ratio of number of flows on each radio will be based on the channel bandwidth ratio.
