I thought we got a shipment of incorrectly assembled SMs because there are no LEDs on the side like on the 5 GHz version. But apparently the 3 GHz version has never had those LEDs, and I just didn’t notice until now.
Is this true, and if so, why? Does the internal heatsink take up too much room or something? It’s not a big deal, the LEDs are hard to see in sunlight and useless once you put on a radome, it just seems strange.
The LEDs on the 3Ghz radio are under the “cap” on the back of the feed horn. One benefit of this is that they are essentially always in the shade, so they are easy to see.
Ken, it was that type of feedback that led to the change. They were very hard to see in sunlight and very hard to see around the radome. So you’re exactly right as to why they were moved. Since it was a new PCB and mechanical design, we had the opportunity to make those changes with that platform.
