Hello,
We installed a couple 3g 450m AP’s recently and have been seeing some issues with the radio and switch losing connectivity with eachother. From our Mikrotik switch, a quick Disable/Enable of the SFP port will get the connectivity back. Hours/days later the problem returns.
I brought this up to Cambium support who was quick to point out that the SMF “Cyclone” model SFP+ we were using wasn’t compatible, and we should be using a Cambium one. We purchased a box of Cambium “SFP-1G-LX” which show that they are compatible with 450m.
Working on this in our lab first, with a spare 3g 450m and these new SFP-1G-LX, we’re running into the same issue.
I brought it to Cambium’s attention and now they say,
“According to the AP logs and descriptions, the issue looks to be caused by a known compatibility issue with 3G 450m and a Cambium branded single mode SFP module, SFP-1G-LX. Thus, it is suggested to use the Multi-mode SFP instead.
Our engineering team is aware of this issue but, as of now, there is no solution for this yet.”
So I now ask the forum, what fiber do you have connected to 3g 450m? What SFP module? What switch? Do you have problems with connectivity/disconnections?
We use mostly the SFP-1G-LX, but have used some SFP-1G-SX modules with 450m 3GHz and have had zero issues. We have dozens deployed. Pretty much all of these plug into matching SFP modules in cnMatrix switches.
We’ve used 10-12 Fiberstore SFP-1G-LX-31s without any issues. We did have some issues within a few weeks after they were installed. We replaced SFPs and jumpers at both ends so not sure what the issue was. They all tested fine back in the lab. They’ve been running fine for about 3 years since.
Cambium just released 24.2 stable and I noticed at the end of the release notes, they issued guidance on what SFP’s are compatible and recommended for the 450 line:
Thanks Eric,
I can confirm, the SMF SolidOptics SFP we swapped in to our 3g 450m have been working good.
When ordering specify ‘Cisco’ for “Brand Compatibility”.
SFP-1G-LX-SO
1G, Base-LR, 1310nm, 10km/10dB over SMF, LC duplex
FYI, we are in discussions with Solid Optics about getting Cambium Networks added to that “Brand Compatibility” dropdown list of switch vendors you see from the Solid Optics webpage for this one part. I’m optimistic this will be updated soon. In the meantime, specifying CISCO for a brand is fine. Note that when this is updated on the Solid Optics ordering page, it is not intended to be a general recommendation for all Cambium products that wish to use a 1G SMF module, only the Cambium 3GHz 450m AP.
