450b6 headphone jack

We just received our first 450b6 SMs, looks like the GPS puck plugs into the same jack used for tone alignment. Is the intent that we align the dish, then plug in the puck? I assume the SM can’t register without GPS, but can you still use tone alignment OK? Or are we going to have to build some convoluted Y-cable?

Sorry, it turns out this is covered in the AFC operations guide.

Sorry I missed your initial post… but just to save others the time of looking up this question in the AFC guide:

Configure the 450b6 SM AUX port

The 450b6 SM uses the same AUX port for alignment and GPS synchronization.
The Aux Power Config option can be found under Configuration → General → GPS Settings:

  • Start with the Aux Port Config set to Alignment Tone: this is the default option
  • Complete the installation and alignment (At this point, there is no GPS signal, which means that the SM is operating as a Standard Client at a lower EIRP.)
  • Go into the GPS Setting section and check that the GPS is selected as Enable.
  • Change the Aux Port Config selection to GPS Data

  • At this point, the SM starts receiving GPS information. It contacts the AFC and increases its EIRP if allowed.

Basically, you’re starting with the AUX port sending alignment tone (using a headset connected to this port). Then, when you change the setting, you’ll need to connect the GPS puck kit, part number N000045L004A, to that port.
