450m 3GHz Frame Utilization

Hi all, gathering data as this is being typed out but have a 450m 3GHz frame utilization shot up to 95% utilization passing only 45mbps in sector. BER has all gone wild as well, never seen this and it’s been running since 2022

If you look at the AP’s link status page, how’s the overall SM health? Are there lots of low modulation SM’s? How’s the AP’s sounding statistics page looking? Are there lots of SM’s that are tracking or not eligible to participate in MU-MIMO?

5 of 17 subs are not participating in mu-mimo, those same 5 have low link quality. Did not have this prior years. APs Spectrum analyzer shows next to nothing for interference, -87 Max and -86 Mean

Ran the remote spectrum analyzer on one on the closest SM and its showing -45 Max and -46 mean, are we seeing self interference?

Try a different channel and/or channel width and see if things change/improve?

I did try different channel width and different channels and no change.

This SM is 202 meters from the AP, been installed a few years..

Did notice its H SNR has dropped

I find this interesting

The top has some trees in the line of sight but the bottom one is the one that I shared the alignment screen previously, crap stats but good signal.

The 450 platform really doesn’t like nNLOS, and reflections and multipath issues can cause wild swings in modulation or just poor modulation in general, despite having excellent RSSI/SnR. If you haven’t done so already, you should try enabling airtime fairness schedular on the AP, this may help to prevent those SM’s with poor modulation from impacting AP frame utilization.

Understood and thank you for your reply. What should I do with the one SM I pointed out that is 200meters from the AP, 100%. Clean LOS but has terrible link quality?

The SM is reporting an RSSI of -30, which is too strong. Try moving it out of optimal alignment to reduce the RSSI to something around -50 to -60 RSSi. See if that improves modulation.

Or you could look for some of the discontinued 450 SMs on the used market, and install them without a reflector dish. Maybe it’s just a personal quirk, but I dislike misaligning antennas to get around antenna gain being too high for how close they are. It sure would be nice if there was a 450b mid gain in 3 GHz.

FWIW, if you find SMs with a really high V/H ratio, try replacing the SM. Although we saw this mostly on the 450 SMs (including the panel version), I don’t know how often we’ve seen this on the 450b’s.

Yeah, using the original 3GHz SM would be one option to reduce downlink RSSI without detuning, unfortunately they’re limited to around 60-70mbps of usable bandwidth. I think I’d rather detune then take the performance hit.

I guess he could use a 450i flat panel SM, but that would be a very expensive solution.
