Device: Cambium E400 Problem: Disconnects randomly while connected with the 5GHz Wi-Fi band. Tested with multiple devices (5G enabled Laptop). Testing: Test events were performed in two part, e.g. 5GHz and 2.4GHz. Both parts were done several times repeatedly using same as well as different machines. Network monitoring tools and ping was used while doing the procedure. 5GHz Test: Laptops were connected through 5GHz band and were given a large file to download via shared folder from another PC(SMB). Within an hour or so the connection drops, i.e. Wi-Fi remains connected but the connection becomes limited hence the pc cannot even find its own AP by ping. Without heavy load, the 5GHz works fine.
4GHz Test: Same file as before were being downloaded in the same laptop, this time using 2.4GHz band. The file was downloaded successfully without facing any issue.
please share the ap techdump and when pc stops sending packet, can client disconnection and connection will start data transfer between client and file server
This has my attention as I have installed an E410 on the latest code as of 9/28/2020 and I see something similar that I am attempting to track down . Have you gotten an answer as I am having something similar although it looks like at my carriers end . We lose almost all bandwidth for approx . seconds then it comes back but can be sporadic . Was pretty much occurring all the time but the past few weeks no issues as we Stream on Sunday Mornings for a Church service .
are we using guest access feature hosted on cnMaestro? we are nailing down this observation. it is worth to share AP techdump to cie001@cambiumnetworks.com
No - no guest features as one SSID set up for 5G only . 2.4G is shut down as we are streaming video to you tube over it . Next time it occurs I’ll be sure to get a dump on it and send it over !
What we see : Upload speed goes to near zero if not zero . Under 5 meg and we lose our stream which happened quite frequently . We upgraded service form Comcast Business from 100/15 to 300/35 and it still occurs only on Sunday AM’s ! I have tried during the week to duplicate the issue but I can’t
One other strange occurrence is that we lost both upload and download twice as well . But a few moments later it came back . Just enough to break the stream .
The past 2 weeks dealing with Comcast Business , We have not seen the issue as they claim on their end its fine …
I had same situation half year ago.
After update to 3.11.4-r9 and now with 3.11.4.1-r3 issue is not present. Please update all AP.
Same issue Was with 4.0 with 4.1 no problem.
I’m new here and so by no means an expert. But, I experienced a similar problem where the 5GHz network would randomly stop showing up for some devices. I think I narrowed it down to the beacon interval being set too high. I was playing around with 500-700ms beacon times to see if it helped boost throughput (it made very little difference) but it seems like 100-200 is a more compatible setting and plays better with smart TVs etc.
Interesting … Thx Luke ! I was thinking about that as well . Seems that the 2.4 and 5G range meter changes rapidly during the day as in strength . Going from 5 bars to 1 or 2 and then no strength at all . Since March we have had this issue and installed the E410 back in June . So I know the carrier is partly to blame as it was only occurring on uploads for a long time . Sunday mornings between 08:00 and 11:00 hours and we would have random times the upload would go to below 5 meg and kill the stream . Put in the E410 to see if it resolved it but not occurring as much . I’ll change the beacons today for that issue …
Hi Folks Just wanted to update as we have tested out this week and found no problems after logging in 12 clients on the AP and using 5G for uploads and downloads etc. With that said , I am still pointing at Comcast but still see the 5G bars go low but we never lost our connections also . 2.4 remained high the whole time . Not sure what is going on but it seems to be stable so I am going to hold off until we get another trouble and see if it matches what we have been chasing . We DID make sure the AP’s are running the latest code(s) also so maybe that had something to do with it as well .
Thx for all the help and I’ll post something probably on Monday as we go in Sunday and live stream so I’ll perform more testing prior as well .
So after 2 weeks , and a LOT of internal testing , We found no issues on the E410 . Pushing approx 13 Meg up for over 6 hours streaming live on a test came back flawless wevben doing some uploads on this as well form a few pc’s . We did a few meg , 5 or 6 on downloading as well all at the very same time . The E410’s were like a rock ! Solid . And I pushed this back to Comcast who , mysteriously the past 5 weeks , have had bandwidth above 27 meg on the upload side . So the network has no issues that I have found . The 5G was interesting as it now stays at 5 bars locally ( 50 feet from the E410 AP ) but we did see it fade a few times down to 2 but it generally bounces right back up . Our noise floor on 5G is steady at -104 also as it sa church and a few devices but nothing serious as they all take them home with them ( Mostly I Phones I pads or laptops ) . So Comcast seems to be the culprit as the issue of losing upload speeds has gone away and they claim they did nothing . Assuming this is true , it would mean someone on our node is doing some tremendous downloading sucking up all of our bandwidth . Or some bad equipment out there that they found replaced and didn’t tell anyone or its still out there ! In any event thanks for the help form everyone as I really appreciate it !
After a couple of months with great performance , its back at it again .
Bandwidth went back to less than 5 mbps , reported streaming errors ( We transmit at 1080P @5mps ) and restored itself occasionally after about an hour of running and continued its behavior for about another hour , but this past Sunday the connection was lost between my laptop and the AP . I went over to the Comcast router Wifi network back up and it worked pretty flawlessly ! Router and AP are approx 75 feet apart ( 100 feet from Router to PC and AP is about 25 feet in the ceiling ), Hence why I suspect the AP …
Comcast on the line and said they saw no issues . The hard part is that we are streaming a Mass so I cannot effectively troubleshoot 100 % as I have to make sure the YouTube session stays up so my time is dedicated to that ! But I need to do both now and find the root cause .
I will follow this troubleshooting advice and get more details , hopefully being able to run wireshark off the ap as well as my PC !
how many aps experiencing this kind of issues - Only one in service
average no of clients connected 7 clients
any details about Tx and Rx traffic if possible - looks like xmit around 5 to 7 meg and Receive anywhere between 5 and 14 meg as I monitor the site via YouTube analytics so I get a playback of the video also . I shut Youtube Analytics off to Lower bandwidth to less than 1 meg receive but no change on the bandwidth loss
share at least 2 to 3 aps techdump when the issue happens - I will gather this information this Sunday when the issue occurs
hope this what happens when issue occurs,
clients disconnect - Note : I did not have time to check with other folks if they lost their I Phone connection to the ap but most of them are set up for both the ap and the router so I would guess they saw no loss but possible they got disconnected as I will find out this Sunday as well
ap goes offline from cnMaestro
we have not seen ap getting hang when the issue reported
Thx for the help here as I appreciate the comments … .
During the week I updated the settings and unchecked arp upgrades via cn maestro . Yesterday ( Sunday ) the log showed no errors and we had a near perfect performance streaming . Albeit a few camera set up hardware issues , my fault . I also lowered the bandwidth form 1080P 60 FPS at 5 meg to 720P 30 FPS at 3.5 meg to slow the upload a bit . We should be able to stream much higher than that but it seemed as though that could be part of the issue as well . I may leave it there for a while as it seems to be rock steady as the stream had no errors .
One issue : During the week I got a fatal error message via cn maestro . I lost my static ip of 10.1.10.200 . The unit Yesterday showed a new dhcp ( Its now enabled for dhcp ) address of 10.1.10.74 . After a power out or a reboot , why would it lose its dhcp settings ?
Not sure what the fatal was but knowing the environment it may have been a power failure .
Looks like the time and date , and the IP address from static to DHCP had changed
I had shut off 2.4 wifi a few weeks back and that was off .
I did check the settings in the arp check box as well but it was l still set correctly
( Off as I did this during the week )
