Hi, I have just upgraded my radio units to version 7.
I now see that we can set the download and upload speed settings directly into the Subscriber Modules.
Does this now mean that the Bam servers are redundant and no longer needed.
I have heard before that you can turn off the internet port on the subscriber module so that they are disabled if this is required.
With being able to set the speed and disable the unit for the end user,
Why do we need Bam anymore.
I may be missing something here as I am fairly new to using Canopy.
Please let me know your thoughts and Is there something else that I am missing.
BAM is not just for specifying the throttle of the SM but for authentication also. If you have a small number of AP’s and likewise a small number of SM’s then bandwith throttling can be done at the SM & AP…but then you have no control mechanism for keeping people you dont want on your network off of it.
Thanks for your reply.
I am currently running a Windows 2003 Licensing server.
I would also like to know how I specify Subscriber Modules that are allowed to access my network. This would then protect me from unwanted access.
Is there a good manual somewhere. I have looked through the Library and read many forums but I can’t find a good guide to the licensing anywhere.
I have read the files that are installed with the license manager but a lot of this doesn’t seem to apply.
Surely I must make a list somewhere of AP’s that are allowed access.
I can do this via a Bam server.
Does this then mean that I have to run a Bam server instead of the Windows 2003 license server.
