Has anyone used both of these, to know which is better? Would appreciate any feedback comparing the two.

I origionally monitored my network with MRTG, but made the switch to Cacti.
They both have their positives and negatives, it all depends on what you are looking for.
MRTG is simpler to configure but you are rather limited in your options. With Cacti, on the other hand, you have very fine-grained control. But with that control, comes complexity.
Personally, I love Cacti now. Graphing standard things are pretty straight forward. Creating custome graphs of custom data fields can get interesting though – three words: Reverse Polish Notation
