CMM GPS Sat Track

Hi, WE have a strange issue with a CMM. It will see 7 sats but track 5 at best, sometimes even tracking down to 1 and eventually lose GPS.

This is what we see:

PLD Version 5
Software Version CANOPY CMM 2.2 Build 2 Feb 23 2006 16:45:22

Height 104 meters Tracking Mode 2D Fix
SYNC Pulse Status SYNC OK

I have tried re-flashing the firware, but same issues.

GPS Status shows:

It is driving me insane.

Any ideas?

I had that same issue. Turns out water got into the cable.

Jerry, thanks for your post.

If it were the cable, why would the GPS show that the Antenna is OK. Normally when you have issues with the cable, you get either over or under current.

I didn’t say that was your problem, that was just my problem.

this is an obvious question, have you relocated the antenna to make sure it has a good los to the southern skies?

Yeah we had an issue like that a few years ago. We mounted the GPS in one location and it worked for a couple years, then it stopped working…so we moved it a couple feet and it’s been working ever since. It was weird.

Just an update on this in case any one else ever sees this issue.

I resolved the problem by moving the GPS receiver about 2 meters horizontally. Tracks 8 Sats now.

Cable was fine.
